The seminar is useful for individuals who work with young people - people who respond to conflict situations and people who experience different levels of violence. It provides a framework for conflict reconciliation/management, mediation and arbitration.
This curriculum is presented using the highly participative popular education model of instruction, incorporating role plays, exercises, and small group activities, as well as short lectures and videos, in order to facilitate a high level of participant engagement.
The course consists of several modules, including:
The Six Principles of Nonviolence as articulated by Martin Luther King
The Six Steps of Nonviolence
The definition of active nonviolence, and the types and levels of conflict
The development of Martin Luther King’s “pilgrimage to nonviolence” with its many challenges, and the development of his eclectic philosophical perspective
A review of Martin Luther King’s movement campaigns and an analysis of relevant lessons for today
