The Gateway Educational Foundation & Institute (GEF/I) is a registered 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in Los Angeles, CA. GEF/I is committed to preserving and promoting the history of the Civil Rights Movement and legacies of those who dedicated their time, resources and lives in the struggle for equality in America. The foundation produces documentaries and other educational materials and events with a particular focus on engaging young people in their understanding of civil rights history. GEF/I’s latest and most ambitious project is the restoration and preservation of Amelia Boynton’s home in Selma, AL, which provided a safe space for civil rights leaders, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to organize, talk, think and be during the 1965 voting rights campaign in Selma.
